A good small-business website should quickly answer five questions: Who are you? What do you offer? Why should I trust you? How can I contact you? And what should I do next?

A good small-business website should quickly answer five questions: Who are you? What do you offer? Why should I trust you? How can I contact you? And what should I do next?
You don’t need a huge website.
You need a website that makes things easy for your customer.
- Who are you?
- What do you offer?
- Why should I trust you?
- How can I contact you?
- What should I do next?
1. A clear explanation of what you do
Someone arriving at your website for the first time shouldn’t have to investigate your company.
Within a few seconds, they should understand what you offer and who it is for.
Simple language usually works better than impressive-sounding business language.
2. Your products or services
Show customers what they can buy or what you can do for them.
You don’t necessarily need a separate page for everything.
For many small businesses, a clear overview with good photos and short explanations is enough.
3. Information about your business
People like knowing who they’re dealing with.
Tell them a little about your company, your experience and the people behind the business.
For a local business, showing real people can be much more convincing than trying to look like a huge corporation.
4. Proof
Anyone can say they provide excellent quality and service.
Showing it is more convincing.
Depending on your business, this could include:
- Completed projects
- Real photographs
- Customers you’ve worked with
- Examples of your products
- Genuine customer reviews
- Certifications or experience
Don’t invent testimonials just because other websites have them. Real proof is much more valuable.
5. Easy ways to contact you
Don’t make customers search for your telephone number.
If your customers prefer LINE, make LINE easy to find. If they call, show your phone number. If you use Facebook Messenger or a contact form, make those available too.
The website should fit the way your customers already communicate.
6. Your location or service area
If location matters to your business, make it clear.
A restaurant needs an address. A construction company may instead need to explain which provinces it serves.
A map can also help customers find you.
7. A website that works well on a phone
For many customers, your website will first be seen on a smartphone.
They shouldn’t need to zoom, struggle with tiny buttons or search through complicated menus.
Everything important should be easy to see and use on a small screen.
What doesn’t every small business need?
This is equally important.
You don’t automatically need a blog, customer login, complicated management system, dozens of pages or every new website feature available.
Start with what helps your customers.
More can always be added later if your business actually needs it.
Keep it simple
A useful small-business website doesn’t need to impress people with technology.
It should make a potential customer think:
I understand this company. They look trustworthy. They have what I’m looking for. I know how to contact them.
If your website achieves that, it’s doing its job.
